Students at Los Alamos High School are taking meaningful action to address mental health challenges among their peers and promote open, stigma-free conversations.
Fundraising activities undertaken by Key Club members involved selling cotton candy at the Los Alamos Summer Concert Series, showing their commitment to supporting youth mental health projects. Unlike other fundraising activities where the amount is donated to Erika’s Lighthouse or JJAB, Key Club members decided to involve themselves in efforts geared at ensuring a safe environment where youth can openly discuss their struggles and experiences.
In their efforts to support their mission, Key Club, with help from students of the National Honor Society and the Rotary Interact Club are hosting a seminar featuring Magdelena Karlick of JJAB as well as Jessica Strong, a renowned mental health advocate. Together, they will present on emotional well-being and how to support oneself and others.
Attendees will be able to purchase cotton candy with all profits going to Erika’s Lighthouse and receive a free catered meal from El Parasol. The event will take place, 3:30-5:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 24 at SALA Event Center.
