SPORTS News:

Stephen Boone of Los Alamos qualified this week for the 2023 North American (NorAm) mogul skiing tour. Athletes qualify for World Cup and NorAm starts through their performance at the US Nationals and US Selections competitions.

With a strong field this week, including three members of the US Ski Team and athletes from Australia and Japan, Boone finished 14th and 24th in single moguls and 20th in dual moguls. He qualified 13th out of all US men competing for the starts.

The first NorAm will be held next week at Apex Mountain Resort in Canada. Other NorAm competitions are in Deer Valley, Utah, Val St. Come, Canada and Stratton Mountain in Vermont.

In addition to NorAm competitions, Boone will continue to compete with the Rocky Mountain Freestyle Division in Colorado.

At the first competition of the year in Vail, Boone finished in 3rd place. He also was named to the 2023 Rocky Mountain Freestyle All-Star team. RMF All-Star team sponsors, Alterra Mountain Company, CSCUSA and Vail Resorts provide generous support through passes for the athletes.

Boone skis with the Winter Park Competition Center and recently moved to Winter Park to train full time. He got his start on the Los Alamos Ski Racing Club but with no mogul programs in New Mexico, Boone  has skied with the Durango and Telluride teams and trained with teams from Colorado, Utah and Maine over the winter and summer seasons.

Boone also has held an annual mogul clinic at Pajarito Mountain Ski Area the past several years, providing instruction to skiers of all ages and abilities.
