Three local athletes recently competed at the National Senior Games in Cleveland, Ohio.
Susan Krohn and Jackie Marr participated in the swimming events for women in the 70-74 age division and Inez Ross in the 5K Road Race for women in the 80-84 age division.
Results:
Inez Ross:
- 5K Road Race = 4th at 50:12:2 (just 7 seconds behind 3rd place)
Susan Krohn (swimming with a casted broken arm):
- 100 yard back: 26th at 3:49:86
- 50 yard brst: 20th at 1:54:29
- 50 yard free: no time given (5th in her heat, 1/8 heats)
- 100 yard free: 22nd at 3:58:88
Jackie Marr: swimming
- 100 yard back: 1st at 1:29:36
- 100 yard IM: 1st at 1:32:26
- 200 yard IM: 1st at 3:17:05 for a new national record (old record set in 2007 at 3:19:30)
- (She also holds the 60-64 and 65-69 national records set in 2003 and 2011)
- 100 yard free: 1st at 1:18:32
- 200 yard free: 1st at 2:46:99 for a new national record (old record set in 2007 at 2:48:50)
- 500 yard free: 1st at 7:29:62 for a new national record (old record set in 2009 at 7:35:18)
- (She also holds the 60-64 and 65-69 national records set in 2003 and 2011)
Local athletes 50+ can qualify through the annual local games to compete at the state level. Games are held annually. Los Alamos Games are usually around April 15-May 15 with State games currently in Roswell the end of July. Nationals are held bi-annually at a different venue each time.
