State Parks Division News:
The State of New Mexico is looking for citizen input on outdoor recreation and with its significant population of outdoor enthusiasts, Los Alamos is a great resource for that information.
The 2021-2026 Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP) is in development by the State Parks Division of the Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department (EMNRD), with input from local, state, and federal agencies, outdoor recreation businesses, non-profits, and interested citizens.
The plan provides recommendations to guide outdoor recreation providers in achieving a common vision for outdoor recreation resources in New Mexico and identifies the economic contributions of outdoor recreation.
An updated SCORP is required for the State to continue receiving federal funding from the Land and Water Conservation Fund.
“We see so much love for the outdoors and public demand for increased recreational opportunities in our department,” said Los Alamos County Community Services Department Director Cory Styron. “If we can encourage our citizens to share their insights and ideas for the SCORP, it’s sure to be a win for not only the State, but also Los Alamos County.”
The SCORP will:
- Address state and national outdoor recreation trends and economic impacts;
- Inventory state recreation resources and address how to protect them;
- Develop a vision for improved integration of outdoor education into recreation opportunities; and
- Help prioritize the award of federal funds from the Land and Water Conservation Fund to local communities for critical infrastructure projects.
