Los Alamos Public Schools Kicks Off Fall Sports Season

Get ready for the start of the 2025-2026 Los Alamos Middle School and Los Alamos High School sports seasons. Varsity football began practices this past Monday. Soccer, cross country, golf and volleyball practices begin on Monday, Aug. 11. The fall sports season at the middle school starts on Wednesday, Aug. 13.

“We are looking forward to a great school year,” Athletic Director Guy Meyer said. “This will be his third season leading the LAPS sports program. 

Meyer was recently honored as the Northeast Region Athletic Director of the year for the 2024-2025 school year.

“We have an experienced coaching staff and are gearing up for the first days of practices,” he said.

Meyer is joined in the Athletics department by Assistant Athletic Director Doug Weiss, Athletic Assistant Sarah Morgan and Athletic Trainer Arturo Rodriguez-Gonzales.

Last year, more than 250 students at the middle school participated on a sports team. At the high school, more than 460 students participated in athletics. Los Alamos High School placed second in the New Mexico Athletics Association (NMAA) Director’s Cup in 4A.

Season passes and all tickets for fall athletic events will go on sale beginning Aug. 11.  They may be purchased in advance or with a debit/credit card at the gate.  Cash will not be accepted at the gate.  Click here to purchase tickets or season passes.

All season passes include entry to all middle school games as well as high school regular season games. Passes are good for admission to all regular season home games but will not be accepted for any postseason events. The cost for a season pass is $85 for an individual, $50 for a student (K-6), military or senior citizen (65+) or $175 for a family of four.

The Varsity football season starts on Friday, Aug. 22, as Los Alamos High School visits the Espanola Valley High School Sundevils. Game time is 7 p.m. The first home game is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 28 at 6 p.m. at Sullivan Field when the Hilltoppers face the Taos Valley High School Tigers.

Middle and high school athletes who wish to participate in any sport at Los Alamos Public Schools must complete their RankOne athletics registration before the first day of  tryouts or practice. Paperwork will need to be submitted electronically via RankOne Sport as hard copies will not be accepted. More information about the registration process may be found at LAPS Athletics

LAHS competes in football, volleyball, boys and girls cross country, boys and girls soccer, cheer, boys and girls golf, boys and girls basketball, boys and girls wrestling, swimming and diving, baseball, softball, boys and girls tennis, and boys and girls track.

At the middle school, athletes may compete in football, volleyball, cross country, cheer, boys and girls tennis, boys and girls basketball, wrestling, baseball, softball, and boys and girls track and field. Eighth graders may also be eligible to compete in golf and swimming and diving at the high school level.

LAMS and LAHS are both member schools of the NMAA, which encourages all athletes to “Compete with Class”.
