LAPD News:

Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) reports 42 catalytic converters have been stolen from vehicles parked in Los Alamos County since February 2023, in 27 separate police investigations.

LAPD is asking the public to review new photos of the suspect(s) and offering up to a $1,000 reward to anyone with information leading to the identity or apprehension of the suspect(s) and suspect vehicle(s).

“These criminals have blatant disregard for victims and the law and once we apprehend them we will seek nothing but the maximum penalty associated with these crimes.” Deputy Chief Oliver Morris said. “Our new surveillance equipment is assisting in these investigations as well as calls from our citizens.”

LAPD officers are increasing patrols and making an impact. In two separate instances undercover officers and patrol officers attempted to apprehend suspect(s) who then fled in vehicles causing extreme danger to both officers and the public. LAPD believes one of the suspects was apprehended by the Española Police Department.

“This current crime trend has been very frustrating to say the least,” Morris said. “It has not come without some success.”
