2022 at the Los Alamos Police Department was filled with community engagement, the rescue of a hiker, providing assistance during the Cerro Pelado Fire and putting criminals behind bars.
“Although we continued to struggle with the legacy effects of COVID including lower staffing levels, the police department employees continued to provide exceptional service to the community,” Police Chief Dino Sgambellone said. “I am very proud of the work that was done in 2022 and I look forward to continued exceptional service in 2023.”
Cmdr. Oliver Morris was promoted to Deputy Chief in January following the retirement of Jason Wardlow-Hererra. Chief Morris served as president of the Rotary Club of Los Alamos July 2021 to June 2022. The project he led during his presidential year was the Peace Glow for Rotary, which raised more than $5,000 for Ukraine. The district was awarded a $25,000 Disaster Response Grant because of all the money raised.
