The Los Alamos Police Department has received questions from the community regarding our immigration policy given the recent coverage of immigration enforcement at the federal level.
Although the federal administration has changed, our policy has not.
The Police Department works with all our federal partners and provides assistance as prescribed by law, or as a matter of public and officer safety.
With specific respect to immigration, the Department has a responsibility to properly identify and make Counsular notification of any foreign citizen taken into custody in accordance with law and international treaties.
If you are a victim or a witness of a crime, you will not be asked about your citizenship. Victims and witnesses of crimes should contact the Los Alamos Police Department without fear of their immigration status being questioned.
