The Los Alamos Phi Beta Kappa Association is pleased to announce the winners of our 2024 Regional Scholarships. In our second year of awarding regional scholarships, thanks to generous donations from our members, we were able to increase our awards from $500 to $1,000 per student. Our goal is to support under-represented minorities in fulfilling their educational and career goals and making significant contributions to their communities, our nation and our planet in all areas of the liberal arts and sciences.

The scholarships recognize academic achievement as an indicator of promise for future accomplishments. All of our scholarship winners have pursued excellence while in high school and have plans for pursuing a college education that will enable them to fulfill their professional and personal goals and contribute to making their communities and the world a better place.

This year’s winners are all extraordinarily talented and hard-working students:

Maria Begay (Santa Fe Indian School) has excelled not only in her school work, but has participated in efforts to preserve her Navajo language and culture and has worked on projects to remember and honor missing and murdered indigenous women around the world. Maria will be attending Arizona State University in the fall and plans to study Architecture and Interior Design.

Tyler Suazo (Santa Fe Indian School) is a multi-faceted student who speaks Tewa, plays varsity golf, and participates in preparing and designing art shows. Tyler will be attending Fort Lewis College in the fall, majoring in Studio Arts and Digital Design.

Che Kuzov Tsong (Santa Fe High School) is an ambitious and dedicated student who has participated in the New Mexico Model United Nations, including as co-president this past year. Che will be attending Loyola Marymount University and plans to major in Psychology and Pre-law.

We wish all of our deserving winners the best of luck in their future endeavors and we believe that their success will have a positive impact on their communities and the world.

If you would like to support the Los Alamos Phi Beta Kappa Association’s effort to improve our world through enhancing access to education in the liberal arts and sciences for under-represented minorities in north-central New Mexico, we would welcome your donation to LA-PBK (memo – regional scholarships) to PBK-LA Coordinating Committee, P.
