Los Alamos High School Navy Junior ROTC (NJROTC) completed its 2024 annual Area Manager’s Inspection Thursday, Feb. 15.

The NJROTC program stretches worldwide, from east to west coast, to Japan and Europe. The program is broken down into separate “areas” overseen by an area manager who visits all units in their area every year to conduct an Area Manager’s Inspection, or AMI for short. This is a vitally important event in the life of a unit as it provides an assessment of the management of the unit as well as its overall health.

“We’ve been working all year for this,” said Los Alamos NJROTC Commanding Officer Cadet Commander Joshua Danforth. “Each of these cadets has put in time and effort to make this happen. It’s amazing to see it all come together after everyone’s hard work.”

The inspection was like none other this year. Area 20 Manager Lieutenant Commander George Murga traveled to Los Alamos High School, inspected the program, and attended a pass-in-review ceremony while also touring the NJROTC facilities.

The inspection took place in Griffith Gymnasium in front of a large crowd of proud family members, friends and representatives, with Superintendent Jennifer Guy and Principal Renee Dunwoody also in attendance.

“AMI was something a lot of my peers were really nervous about, including myself,” Cadet Seaman Apprentice Kaylee Colson said. “That being said, Topper Company did an amazing job from start to finish. I couldn’t be more impressed with the hard work everyone put into their uniforms, their speeches, and their ability to present themselves at their best. Good job, Topper Company!”

In closing out the day’s festivities, LCDR Murga said, “Bravo zulu for an outstanding AMI!”
