Los Alamos Mountain Bike Team
Ten Los Alamos high and middle school mountain bike team members competed at the Manzana Mountain Madness New Mexico Interscholastic Cycling League (NMICL) race held at Oak Flats on Sunday Sept. 22. Oak flats is in the Manzanito Mountains east of Albuquerque, and the area was peaking with local pinon and nearly 150 talented youth cyclists from across the state of NM. Spectators and forgers had plenty of action to keep them cheering.
Middle school athletes were the first to queue up at the start line. Quanah Moseley (6th grade Mountain Elementary School) maintained his solid lead and the leader’s jersey earning another top spot on the podium. Leif Wald-Hopkins (7th grade Los Alamos Middle School) competed in the 7th grade boys race earning a 14th place finish. Dmitri Lawrence raced a single loop MS race and took the top spot in his first race of the season.

Sebastian Koglin sporting the leader’s jersey kicked off the JV1 field. Following the JV1 field were the JV2 athletes that included Ian McLean, Calvin Grow, and Adis Bock (10th graders at LAHS). Ezra Kozimor (9th grade LAHS) moved up to the 9th grade field during his second race of the season.
The HS boys team all finished in the top 10. Sebestian Koglin finished the JV1 race in 5th place. Ian McLean, Calvin Grow, and Adis Bock finished the JV2 race in 2 nd , 5th and 9th, respectively. Ezra Kozimor finished the 9th grade race in 9th place.
The next NMICL event will be held at Pajarito Mountain Oct. 12-13. Community members are welcome to come out and support our local athletes.
New athletes between 6th grade to 12th grade are welcome to join the LA mountain bike team and information is available at https://newmexicomtb.org.
