Los Alamos Medical Center Celebrates National Nurses Week

LAMC News:

Every year, National Nurses Week focuses attention on the diverse ways America’s 3.1 million registered nurses work to save lives and to improve the health of millions of individuals. At Los Alamos Medical Center, we celebrate the diverse ways our 106 registered nurses contribute to the health and well-being of LAMC and northern New Mexico.

Annually, National Nurses Week begins May 6, marked as RN Recognition Day, and ends May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, founder of nursing as a modern profession. During this week, nurses at Los Alamos Medical Center are honored in a variety of ways including a recognition board in the cafeteria dining room, complimentary breakfasts, a banner hung outside the main entrance, and an array of gifts and prizes bestowed upon them during the week.

“We deeply appreciate our nurses and we want them to know how much we value the depth of their care and commitment to our, their, patients,” said Tracie Stratton RN, Chief Nursing Officer at LAMC. “They work long hours and go all out for their patients and we wanted to say thank you in as many ways as possible.”

Traditionally, National Nurses Week is devoted to highlighting the diverse ways in which nurses, who comprise the largest health care profession, are working to improve health care. From bedside nursing in hospitals and long-term care facilities to the halls of research institutions, state legislatures, and Congress, the depth and breadth of the nursing profession is meeting the expanding health care needs of American society.

Los Alamos Medical Center is a regional hospital providing quality care close to home to the people of north central New Mexico. LAMC is part of LifePoint Hospitals, a leading hospital system that operates 57 community hospitals in twenty states. With a mission of Making Communities Healthier, LifePoint is the sole hospital in a majority of the communities it serves.
