Lloyd Trujillo, 48, of Los Alamos was arrested July 21 and charged with battery upon a police officer, assault against a household member, operation of a vehicle on approach of an emergency vehicle and two counts of resisting, evading or obstructing an officer.

Los Alamos Police Sgt. Brent Hudspeth was dispatched to the LAPD lobby to meet with a woman who was having a dispute with Trujillo, her ex-husband. The woman told Hudspeth she was dancing with a male friend at a concert at Ashley Pond Park when Trujillo approached her and became angry. She said Trujillo and her friends became confrontational with each other so she decided to leave the concert.

The woman said Trujillo went to where her car was parked, got into the vehicle and would not get out, so she walked over to the police department to avoid conflict. Hudspeth escorted her to her vehicle but Trujillo had left. Shortly afterward the woman called LAPD Dispatch to say Trujillo was following her.

As he approached Diamond Drive and Urban Street, Hudspeth observed Trujillo’s vehicle tailgating the woman’s vehicle. He initiated his emergency lights and sirens but Trujillo continued to follow the woman even more closely, making no attempt to pull over. At Diamond and Ridgway, the woman started to pull over and Trujillo mimicked her movements while continuing to follow very closely.

Hudspeth’s report indicates that based on the driving exhibited by Trujillo, he felt Trujillo might attempt a violent action against the woman when she stopped her vehicle. He pulled alongside Trujillo and parked in an attempt to separate the two vehicles and gain a margin of safety for the woman.

Hudspeth approached Trujillo’s vehicle and opened the driver’s door and instructed him to get out of the car while holding his left wrist for safety reasons. Hudspeth said Trujillo reached out with his right arm, pushed him away and began actively resisting and refusing to place his hands behind his back for both Hudspeth and Ofc. Natalee Trujillo. Hudspeth grabbed him from behind and placed him on the ground where Ofc. Trujillo was able to get a hold of his arm and he was handcuffed.

The woman told Hudspeth that when she left the police department and headed home, she noticed Trujillo following her so he decided to return to the LAPD, adding that he was following her so closely she was unable to see his headlights.

Trujillo is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Aug. 24 before Los Alamos Magistrate Judge Pat Casados.
