COMMUNITY News:
In response to frequent communication outages in Los Alamos County, Los Alamos Makers is inviting the community to an innovative, hands-on event: “Off-Grid Communication with Meshtastic” from 4–6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, at Los Alamos Makers, located in the Blue Window building.
This workshop will also mark the kickoff of the new Los Alamos Tech MeetUp, a community gathering designed to bring together curious minds, technologists, entrepreneurs, and innovators.
Event Highlights:
- Learn how Meshtastic, a small, low-power radio system, creates resilient mesh networks for texting and GPS location sharing without cell towers, Wi-Fi, or the internet.
- Explore practical uses for emergency response, hiking, and family communication.
- Get hands-on experience setting up devices.
- Walk away with your own Meshtastic device—available for purchase on site.
“Los Alamos has bright scientists, makers, and problem-solvers—but we’ve lacked a regular place to connect, share ideas, and explore new technologies together,” said Prisca Tiasse, Director of Los Alamos Makers. “The Los Alamos Tech MeetUp aims to fill that gap, starting with this timely, community-focused workshop.”
