Hike Upper Frijoles Canyon with Craig Martin (local expert) – 9:00am to 12:00pm
Join local expert Craig Martin on a hike from Bandelier’s Ponderosa Campground to Upper Crossing. The distance is 4 miles with a 400-foot elevation gain in a quarter mile on the way back. You’ll get incredible views of Frijoles Canyon, walk through an old growth ponderosa pine forest, see an array of wildflowers, and have a chance to glimpse some unusual plants near the end of the trail.

Campground is located on State Route 4, six miles west of the park entrance and near the
turnoff to Los Alamos, State Route 501.

Astronomers are closing in on the proof they’ve sought for years that one of the most destructive
objects in the universe–a supermassive black hole–lurks at the center of our own galaxy. Come to the July New Mexico PBS Science Café and watch a segment of NOVA Monster of the Milky Way and then join in a discussion with astrophysicist Dr. Richard Wallace. Dr. Wallace will examine the birth, evolution, and death of black holes.

Silent Voices of WWII – Navajo Code Talkers – 10:00am
WWII historian Nancy Bartlit will share through archival and recent photographs, the development of the Navajo Code and how the US Navy deployed these US Marine radio men to transmit message from the front lines, to the beach and then to command centers on ships.

In a hilarious 10-minute show for all ages, two ridiculous individuals meet and try to figure out if the other is a spy. Convinced they are enemies, they try to one-up each other with absurd actions and fighting. That is until they release their most secret spy weapon: the most unbelievable staring contest you will ever witness. Starring Gwen Lewis and Kate Ramsey. Directed by Paul Lewis.
