LIBRARY News:
October’s Los Alamos County Library Board meeting featured a presentation by Library Manager Gwen Kalavaza on inclusivity efforts at the library. These efforts build on principles developed by the American Library Association: the Library Bill of Rights and the Freedom to Read Statement.
At Los Alamos Public Libraries, everyone is welcome, regardless of background, identity, or ability, and staff work to ensure equitable access to resources, services, and opportunities, as well as the representation of diverse voices in collections, services, and programming.
The community is invited to contact the Library Board with feedback on how the library can welcome and serve all.
In the Manager’s Report, the board was notified that both library branches will be closed Friday, Nov. 7 for staff development workshops. The community is encouraged to make note of this and remember to schedule any library holds to be placed in the outdoor lockers for pick up; these can be accessed 24/7.
The Library Board welcomed two new members, Jason Chappel (who will also be taking on the role of board vice chair) and Ryan Parker. The Library Board thanked its two outgoing members, Frances Knudson and Sarah Work, for their valuable contributions to the board.
The next Library Board meeting is scheduled for Nov. 3 at the Municipal Building. Email questions or suggestions to the Library Board at lb@lacnm.us. This email will reach all board members including Beth Chair Stelle, Vice Chair Jason Chappel, Michele Altherr, Ryan Parker, and Brian Reardon.
