American Legion Riders Chapters from across the state of New Mexico met Oct. 12 at the Frank G. Frainier American Legion Post 90 in Los Alamos. The Los Alamos Legion Riders, Chapter 19, hosted the meeting.

Dist. 43 Rep. Stephanie Garcia Richard and Post Commander Bill Cooper welcomed the Riders and thanked them for their service our veterans. The Fifties Diner hosted the buffet luncheon.

During the General Meeting session, an update on the Legion Riders Operation Wounded Warrior program was provided. This year the New Mexico American Legion Riders raised approximately $145,000 in cash, care and support items for our Nation’s most seriously wounded warriors being treated at Brooks Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas.

Fifty plus New Mexico Legion Riders escorted and delivered the collected items to Fort Sam Houston Oct. 24. During their time in San Antonio, they met with wounded veteran Lt. Micah Andersen and his family. Lt. Andersen is a graduate of Los Alamos High School and was injured by an improvised explosive device while on active duty near Kandahar Afghanistan.
