Looking for fun activities for your elementary school child? Start out on History Adventures this week! The Los Alamos History Museum is sharing fun, hands-on activities and adventures every week this month at www.LosAlamosHistory.org/Childrens_Programs.
History Adventures kicks off this week with an exploration of “What is History?” Explore what’s changed in Los Alamos over the years, and what things have (maybe surprisingly) stayed the same.
Follow the historic walking tour in downtown Los Alamos for an introduction to local history, and children can pick their favorite stop on the tour—or brainstorm a historic location they’d like to add to the tour.
Children also will get a chance to learn what it’s like behind the scenes in a history museum and get to make their own mini museum about any topic they’re passionate about. Everything you need to get started is in the free History Adventures pdf activity packet.
There are five different themes to explore, beginning with this week. Every week there will be an outdoor adventure, a hands-on activity that lets kids make history, and a photo challenge to spark kids’ creativity. We’ll share updates each week in June with information about that week’s History Adventures theme.
All the activities are available now, so if you’re excited and want to try them sooner, go at your own pace! We’d love to see the connections you make with history—share photos from your family’s History Adventures and tag us @LosAlamosHistory on Facebook or Instagram.
