Los Alamos History Museum Presents New Exhibit: ‘Michnovicz: Life Through His Lens’

LAHM News:

The Los Alamos History Museum (LAHM) presents the photographic exhibition, “Michnovicz: Life Through His Lens,” featuring the work of Manhattan Project photographer John ‘Mike’ Michnovicz. This unique collection showcases everyday life in Los Alamos during one of the most pivotal periods in history.

Michnovicz, a skilled photographer assigned to document the people, places, and work of Los Alamos during the Manhattan Project, captured rare images of the town “on both sides of the fence”. His photographs provide an intimate look at the scientists and workers who played critical roles in shaping world history, as well as glimpses of life in a town shrouded in secrecy.

“This exhibition offers a powerful and rare visual narrative of Los Alamos during the 1940s,” LAHM Executive Director Todd Nickols said. “Michnovicz’s images not only document a defining moment in history but also remind us of the humanity behind the scientific endeavor.”

The Los Alamos History Museum invites the public to explore this stunning collection of photographs, many of which have never been displayed before. Visitors will have the opportunity to see Los Alamos as it was during its most secretive years, through the lens of a photographer who had access few others did.
