SPORTS News:

Los Alamos High School athlete GG Romero has been named among Northern New Mexico’s Best Winter/Spring Athletes of the 2023-2024 season.

Romero was also named 1st team all State Player, and for two years in a row District Player of the year along with being an academic player. She is the first girl basketball player in Los Alamos to score 1,000 baskets by her Junior year.

During the season, Romero was a marked player whenever the Hilltoppers stepped on the court, but she continued to produce. She led the team in scoring (18.3 points per game) and rebounding (5.2 per contest), and was an important piece in Los Alamos’ turnaround from a 2-5 start and the departure of their head coach after the first week of the season.

Romero scored 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds in a 53-45 win over Pojoaque Valley that vaulted the Hilltoppers into a tie for first place.

In the District 2-4A championship, she scored 20 points and hit a backbreaking shot to thwart the Elkettes’ rally in a 58-46 win.

Romero is ranked in the top 8 for girls basketball players in the state, according to MaxPreps.
