Staff Report

As Los Alamos High School senior Katie Herrmann and her mom Ryn Herrmann were getting out of their car Friday in the high school parking lot for Katie to walk in her graduation ceremony, her little dog Simon escaped and fled the area.

“We had so many people out hiking and driving around helping us look for him,” Ryn said.

Simon, 1, was missing for 3.5 hours.

“We finally found him perched on a nearby cliff and Katie climbed up to get him,” Ryn said. “After all the time it took to find and rescue Simon, Katie didn’t get to walk across the stage to receive her diploma, but she did arrive just in time for them to hand it to her through her car window right before they ended the ceremonies.”
