LAPS News:
The Los Alamos High School 2022-2024 literary magazine, Pegasus, has been recognized with an Excellent distinction in the Recognizing Excellence in Art and Literary magazines (REALM) contest.
This ranking of Excellent was given by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE). The 2020-2021 Pegasus also received this distinction.
The creation of Pegasus is a school-sponsored activity that has a long-standing tradition at Los Alamos High School, starting in 1965. The publication features poems, short stories and artwork by LAHS students.
Topper Virtual Academy English Teacher Ildiko Nadaskay Goeller has been the Pegasus sponsor for over 25 years. “I am very honored that our publication received this recognition and proud of the creativity and hard work of our students,” she said.
This year, magazines from middle school, high school, and higher education were welcomed for the 2024 contest. The 2024 NCTE REALM program nominated schools in forty-six (46) states and five countries totaling 422 student magazines.
The REALM program publicly recognizes excellent literary magazines produced by students with the support of their teachers. REALM is designed to encourage all schools to develop literary magazines that celebrate the art and craft of writing. Schools in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, US territories, Canada, and American schools abroad are eligible to nominate magazines.
