Twenty-nine Los Alamos High School seniors were recognized at a ceremony for earning the New Mexico Bilingualism-Biliteracy State Seal. This seal will be printed on their high school diplomas.
Students also receive cords, which they will wear during the graduation ceremony this Saturday.
This seal is an award given by a school, school district, or state in recognition of students who have studied and attained proficiency in two or more languages by their high school graduation.
This is the fourth year that LAHS has participated in this program. One hundred twelve students have received the New Mexico Bilingualism-Biliteracy State Seal since its inception.
Fourteen students completed all requirements for French including Quinton Geller, Violet Henderson, Yunseo Kim, Victoria Kwei, Hailey McDowell, Rylee Mecham, Ean Nickols, Sean Peterson, Gwendolyn Pickett, Ava Pietryga, Maya Price, Marian Stradling, Solenne thelliez and Samuel Wescott. In addition, Jodie Green and Alex Panta are awaiting AP (Advanced Placement) test scores.
Four students completed all requirements for German including Marcellus Ferrell, Zorah Fullop, Isaac Gao and Evan Long. An additional eight students are awaiting AP test scores including Ella Downing Olsen, Lyas Eidenberz, Adeline Feng, Philippa Fung, Brian Han, Betty Kang, Ming-Yuan Lo and Keturah Sherrill.
Mixalh Adams, Katie Crooker, Sonja Ebey, Yeanwoo Park, Remington Patterson, Nicolas Rey, Mariah Stephens and Pavel Trudolyubov completed all requirements for Latin.
Students who complete all requirements for Spanish include Lizeth Garcia, Isabella McTeigue and Sare Beste Zeytun. Nadezca Draganic, Michelle Macias, Rebecca Massa and James Tyldesley are awaiting AP test scores.
The LAHS World Languages department includes Louise Foliot (French); Elizabeth Bates (German); Melissa Goldman (Latin); and Isabel Duque and Maria Romero (Spanish).
