Elizabeth Hjelvik, a 2014 graduate of Los Alamos High School, is a recipient of the 2021 National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) award, which will cover all living and academic costs for a three year period.

Hjelvik is a graduate student within the Materials Science and Engineering Department at the University of Colorado, Boulder.

In addition to her award, the University of Colorado also will receive funds to cover a Cost of Education allowance in lieu of tuition and fees for each of the three years of fellowship funding.

The NSF GRFP is a competitive fellowship and is the nation’s oldest fellowship program providing support to graduate students in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics fields.

Hjelvik is a magna cum laude graduate in chemistry from the University of New Mexico and has been involved in student research at Los Alamos National Laboratory and UNM. She is the daughter of proud parents Karl Hjelvik and Lisa Pansoy-Hjelvik, residents of White Rock.
