Los Alamos High School (LAHS) 2012 graduate Chase Foster Ealey has made history as the first American to win a shot put world title. Ealey, 27, won the gold medal in women’s shot put Saturday night at the 2022 World Athletics Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.

During an interivew in 2019 with the Los Alamos Daily Post, Ealey’s proud mom Michelle Naranjo-Martinez said, “She works so hard … she trains five days a week … Chase is really dedicated. I know she’d hate it that I’m bragging about her. She’s very humble. But I want other kids to know what it’s possible to achieve.”

According to her mom, Ealey loves being a professional athlete and she does sports fulltime. When not training and traveling to meets, she coaches.

While attedning LAHS, Ealey was a star athlete. She won the New Mexico 4A 100 meter State Championships. She also won the New Mexico State Championship in shot put and javelin four times. In 2011, Ealey was the highest scoring female at the New Mexico State Meet.

An all-around athlete, Ealey also was a star on the basketball and volleyball court at LAHS and played soccer and softball.

After graduating from LAHS, Ealey attended Oklahoma State University where graduated with a degree in elementary education and psycology.

“That little ball has been very good to her!” Naranjo-Martinez said in 2019.
