SPORTS News:
The Los Alamos High School girls tennis team finished third in the district finals this weekend with a big win in the third-place match over a tough team from Robertson. The girls' team started the finals weekend on Friday with a 5-1 quarterfinal victory over St. Michael's to move on to the semifinals.
In the semifinals on Friday afternoon, Los Alamos faced Santa Fe Prep and ended up losing 5-2 in a tough battle against a strong team.
Next, Los Alamos faced Robertson in the third-place match and won a tightly contested battle 5-4 to take the bronze medal. Key performances included wins by freshman Vivian Haigh, senior Olivia Hamilton, junior Lorrin Fordham, and the doubles teams of Lucia Rudin/Julia Robel and Lorrin Fordham/Ajla Bock.
This third-place achievement showed steady progress over the last three years, with the team finishing fifth, fourth, and now third. With the team losing only one senior from the top eight, they look forward to improving again next year.
Next up, the girls move on to the individual tournament in Taos next weekend, followed by the state tournament.
