Forty six Los Alamos High School (LAHS) band, choir, jazz and orchestra students have been selected to perform in the 2023 All-State Festival in January at Popejoy Hall at UNM in Albuquerque.

Students worked hard to prepare for a rigorous blind audition process by practicing scales, concert excerpts, advanced solos and sight-reading.

LAHS has more orchestra students participating in All-State than any other high school in New Mexico, for the 2nd year in a row.

“Unequivocally, we could not achieve such strong results without our elementary orchestra, band and general music programs,” Orchestra Director Michelle Rosette said. “Los Alamos is very fortunate to have the community and District support to start orchestra students in 4th grade and band students in 5th grade. Without these programs, without our students having the additional time in elementary school to learn their instruments, we would not be achieving such strong All-State results. Our celebration must extend to the elementary instrumental and general music teachers as well as the elementary principals who work tirelessly to include these special opportunities for elementary students.”

Additional LAHS music faculty who will be attending All-State with their students in January include  Deanna Teague and Zane Meek (band); Jason Rutledge (choir) and Ryan Finn (jazz and band).

“Come hear these great students in action at our winter concerts! They are all at Duane Smith Auditorium, free and open to the public,” Rosette said.
