Los Alamos Golf Course staff announced today that they will open the golf course Friday, Feb. 19.

The golf pro shop will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the first tee time available starting at 10 a.m.  The golf range will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the last bucket of range balls sold at 4:30 p.m. These operation hours are subject to change due to weather and course conditions, effective through Saturday, March 12 until the shift to daylight savings time, which begins Sunday, March 13.

Golf Course Superintendent Matt Allen requests that all players using golf carts restrict use to cart paths only, due to delicate course conditions. Golfers who would typically use a flag to access the fairways to reach their ball will also be restricted to the cart paths. Tee markers will not be available for at least two weeks. The greens covers will be removed prior to play Friday.

“The golf course is coming out of winter conditions nicely,” said Interim Golf Course Manager Donnie Torres, noting that there is good color in the fairways and green, which is always a good sign in February.

Torres noted, however, that during this time of year, the course will likely be open for a few days and then close for winter weather still likely to pass through the area. In that case, the staff will monitor course conditions and evaluate re-opening after snow disappears.

In addition, Torres said that 2016 season passes are now available and can be purchased at the pro shop. Cottonwood on the Greens restaurant is open to the public year-round, regardless of weather or course closures, he added, noting that Cottonwood on the Greens is currently accepting bookings for the adjacent Community Room for 2016, which the restaurant reserves and operates under contract to Los Alamos County.

For the most up-to-date information on fees, passes, events, golf course openings and closures, Torres recommends that golfers call the pro shop at 505.662.8139, search for and “like” the County’s Recreation Facebook page, or check the golf course website at http://www.losalamosnm.us/rec/golf/Pages/default.aspx.
