The Los Alamos Golf Course reopended Friday and today the Golf Shop is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the first tee time is 10 a.m. and the range closes at 3:30 p.m.
Hours change Sunday when the Pro Shop will open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., the first tee time is 10 a.m., frost permitting, and driving range hours will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The unpredictable weather conditions that occur this time of year will probably have the golf course opened for a few days and then closed for a few days. Golfers are encouraged to check out the Los Alamos County’s Facebook page, golf course website, or call the golf course at 505.662.8139 for updates on openings and closures. .
To help improve the condition of the course, carts are restricted to the paths and those who use a flag to access fairways to reach their balls will be restricted to the paths. Mats are placed on all par three’s and players must play from mats on these holes.
Additionally, all players from Sun Country handicap system are deactivated. This year’s forms and fees for the handicap are available. A number of events are scheduled for the year including the Los Alamos Golf Association (LAGA) Couples’ challenge, LAGA Men’s summer long challenge, LAGA Summer match play for men and women and a variety of tournaments.
LAGA members are invited to attend the Sierra Del Rio golf outing getaway March 14-15. The event is open to 16-40 golfers and includes transportation, lodging, golf, cart, range balls, lunch and clinic hosted by Professional Golf Association (PGA) Hall of Famer Guy Wimberly. For younger golfers, the golf course will participate in the PGA-Junior League Golf program. It will feature a team versus team scramble format. The program emphasizes fun recreation for players at any skill level. Participants should be 7-13 years old. They will receive jerseys, golf balls, five to six regular season league competitions and instruction from a PGA professional. The season will run from June 1 through July 12 and the cost is $150.
