Los Alamos Geological Society Meets Sept. 17

LANL Scientist Harris Mason
LAGS News:
The Los Alamos Geological Society announces its upcoming meeting will be 7-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, at the Los Alamos Christian Church, 92 East Road.

The guest speaker will be Harris Mason, scientist at Los Alamos National Laboratory. His talk is titled, “An Appetite for Apatite: The crystal chemistry of the apatite group minerals.”

The apatite mineral group is a diverse set of minerals popular with mineral collectors and include fluorapatite, pyromorphite, vanadinite and mimetite. The diversity of colors, shapes and sizes of these minerals make them attractive additions to most mineral collections.

Mason will bring a selection of apatite minerals from his own collection for attendees to view and enjoy.

All in the community are invited to attend. Light refreshments will be served.
