 SHELTER News:

The Los Alamos Friends of the Shelter (FOS) is holding a spaghetti dinner fundraiser/auction at 5:30 p.m., July 21 at the Posse Lodge.

A beautiful piece of artwork from local artist Dale Terbush will be auctioned in addition to some stunning pottery pieces and a custom-made pet bed.

This fundraiser is so important to the FOS’s mission of providing support to local families and organizations for their animals. FOS is a humane organization whose mission is to improve the quality of life for unwanted pets by finding then a home and family.

FOS works closely with the Los Alamos County Animal Shelter, local veterinarians and other humane societies. Its program has four major components:

  • A shelter program where volunteers can assist in exercising, grooming and socializing animals to make them more adoptable;
  • An active adoption program to place animals in good home;
  • A program that pays for medical expenses or spay/neuter operations for homeless animals; and
  • An educational program to promote responsible pet ownership, including the benefits and importance of spaying and neutering pets.

FOS  also sponsors two special programs to help pet owners and reduce the number of unwanted pets.  The Catastrophic Illness/Injury program provides funds for veterinary treatment of severely ill or injured pets whose owners cannot afford extensive treatment.

The second program provides vouchers for free spay/neutering of pets, in order to encourage pet owners to make sure that their pets are surgically altered and cannot produce litters of unwanted cats or dogs.

Mark your calendars now so you don’t miss this important event!
