Los Alamos Fire Department EMS Division Chief Ben Stone Named Harvard EMS Fellow

LAFD EMS Division Chief Ben Stone

COUNTY News:

The International Association of Emergency Medical Services Chiefs (IAEMSC) has selected Los Alamos County Fire Department Division Chief Ben Stone as the 2016 INTERMEDIX/IAEMSC Harvard Fellowship recipient.

Chief Stone was selected from a highly competitive candidate pool of qualified EMS chiefs to participate in the Senior Executives in State and Local Government program at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. The program offers participants experiences both inside and outside the classroom to ensure that they are equipped to lead result-driven government agencies and non-profit organizations as public officials.

“Chief Stone works tirelessly without any expectation of credit to constantly improve the delivery of emergency medicine in Los Alamos County,” LAFD Fire Chief Troy Hughes said. Chief Stone has worked closely with Howard County Maryland EMS Chief James Brothers, who ironically was a Harvard classmate of Chief Hughes in 2014 at Harvard, to bring cutting edge cardiac care to Los Alamos County. Hughes went on to say, “LAFD is proud of Chief Stone and his efforts to improve our department and improve himself through higher education.”

The Harvard program is a three-week long intense program that challenges the students who attend. The program is conducted on the Harvard campus in Cambridge, MA. All expenses associated with Chief Stone’s attendance are covered by the INTERMEDIX/IAEMSC scholarship. Chief Stone will make the trip to Cambridge in July.
