Los Alamos Family YMCA Releases Annual Report

YMCA News:

The Family YMCA has released a summary of services it provided in the communities it served in 2015. This independent YMCA is based in Los Alamos and operates a health facility in Los Alamos, and teen centers there and in Española.

The Community Benefit report provides an overview of the organization’s revenue and expenses, service numbers and scholarships that were provided last year.

CEO Linda Daly said the Y’s priorities are to respond to critical community issues in youth development, healthy living and social responsibility and to ensure access to all. “We are a charitable organization that works to ensure that no one is turned away due to inability to pay.”

The Y provided $100,000 in financial assistance to 275 people of which 120 were youth attending Y after school, camp and recreational programs, Daly said “We believe that every child who wants to play basketball, or learn Tae Kwon Do, or go to Y Camp should have that opportunity and that our After School Care program is not just for those families that can afford it. If an individual wants to become healthier and lead a more active lifestyle, price should not be a deterrent.”

Daly said the Y serves a diverse commuter population and their members and program members come from Bernalillo, Taos, Rio Arriba, Santa Fe, Sandoval and Los Alamos counties. She said programs are also diverse and include running Youth Conservation Corps summer job programs for ages 16 to 25, youth volunteer training programs and diabetes prevention and education classes.

The report said the organization served 8,373 people through health memberships and program activities, including 4,295 adults and 605 seniors in 51 programs. It served 3,473 youth and teens in 113 programs including skill-building and mental health resiliency classes at its teen centers, dance, sports and recreation programs. The Y’s $2.74 million revenue comes from program fees (29 percent), membership fees (32percent) and contributions (39 percent).
