Los Alamos Family Council Response To COVID-19

Trying Times

Hello friends of Los Alamos Family Council.

These are interesting times filled with new experiences for everyone. I wanted to share with you how Los Alamos Family Council will be operating its programs during the COVID-19 public health emergency.

Youth Activity Centers

The Youth Activity Centers are operated on behalf of Los Alamos County through a contract. Our operating hours are determined by Los Alamos County and we will remain closed until otherwise instructed. Assuming that restrictions will be lifted in stages, just as they were implanted, we have begun planning for how to provide services without keeping large groups of students close together inside for long periods of time. The YAC staff will be placing information and activities on the Facebook page to help youth engagement during the closure.

Counseling Center

The Counseling Center is continuing to provide services to current clients and we are accepting new clients as well! The office is closed so scheduling and billing are being handled remotely. Therapists are working with their clients to provide services telephonically and using telehealth options. We are preparing to hire an additional therapist to handle the anticipated increase in requests for mental health support as our community feels the strain of closures, and the stress of social distancing. We want to be ready for new clients as they become ready to receive help.

How can I help?

The first opportunity is our new Financial Hardship Fund. This fund was created to provide financial assistance to those who cannot afford their co-payments due to a loss of wages or other financial hardship. Our grant funding in these areas is limited and we would like to offer you the opportunity to help directly serve these clients. A donation of $150 can cover the cost of a client’s co-payment for five weeks. Please consider adopting a client through a donation to our Financial Hardship Fund. This fund can help meet immediate and short term needs for members of our community in these next few months.

Our second fund is our Los Alamos Family Council Endowment Fund available through the Los Alamos Community Foundation. Our endowment fund can receive direct donations or the transfer of non-cash donations of securities. Our Endowment Fund is a new fund and will help stabilize our revenue needs for years to come. When the stock market took a hard hit this month an opportunity was created – the chance for donations to purchase securities at a discount. As market prices are down nearly more than 20% from a month ago, a donation of $250 today could easily be worth $300 within the year! This fund can help meet long term growth and strategic organizational needs for years to come.

You can donate to our Financial Hardship Fund by clicking here and paying through PayPal. You can donate to our Endowment Fund by clicking here. Checks can be mailed to 1505 15th St., Suite C., Los Alamos, NM 87544.

Thank you for considering the benefit of others during these trying times.
