Why does LAFC host movies?
LAFC had a few folks ask why it is hosting monthly movies. There are several reasons, and LAFC hopes that one of them will help community members make attending these movies a priority on their calendar.
The staff first came up with the idea of the movie series as a fundraiser that would be accessible and entertaining to anyone in the community. Big annual events are strenuous and usually don’t bring in large amounts of money for the amount of time it takes to put them together. So the idea of a movie and a dinner was appealing.
LAFC also thought it would be a fantastic way to be beneficial to folks who aren’t already clients, donors, Youth Activity Center families, staff or friends. Anyone can enjoy a movie – so a movie event is the perfect way to invite a friend to come support LAFC’s programming.
LAFC wants to help provide a social network. Clients and staff alike often say how difficult it is to find social activities to do in Los Alamos. Often times, the only places that they can find social interaction is one of the local alcohol establishments. For clients in recovery, this is far from ideal.
This all amounts to a mission-supporting event that enables the community to support LAFC’s work while enjoying wonderful movies … that is a win-win!
