LAPD News:

Los Alamos Deputy Police Chief James Rodriguez has graduated from the FBI’s prestigious National Academy in Quantico, Va., on the U.S. Marine Corps Base.

Deputy Chief Rodriguez joins a distinguished group of recent and current officers from LAPD who have had the honor of attending and graduating from the FBI National Academy.

The FBI National Academy is a comprehensive 10-week residential program of accredited instruction for law enforcement leaders from all over the world. The FBI National Academy has long been a vital element in the continuing improvement of law enforcement standards, knowledge, and cooperation throughout the world.

Completing this rigorous and demanding program is no small feat. It is a testament to Deputy Chief Rodriguez and his dedication, perseverance, and leadership. This achievement not only reflects his personal commitment but also highlights the strong support of his family and the department. Being away for 10 weeks is no easy task, and it takes a team behind the scenes to make success possible.

The FBI National Academy was created in 1935 in response to a 1930 study by the Wickersham Commission. The Commission recommended the standardization and professionalization of law enforcement departments across the United States through centralized training. With the support of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and with authority from Congress and the Department of Justice, the “FBI Police Training School” was created. Courses at that time included Scientific Aids in Crime Detection, Preparation of Reports, Criminal Investigation Techniques, and Administration and Organization. During World War II, courses were added in Espionage and Sabotage.
