POST News:

Sunday marks another milestone in the history of the Los Alamos Daily Post newspaper as it celebrates nine years of delivering local news to readers in Los Alamos, across the nation and around the world.

Award-winning journalist Carol A. Clark launched the Los Alamos Daily Post at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012 from her White Rock home. Start-up team members Bonnie Gordon, Kirsten Laskey and Greg and Karen Kendall worked with Clark to build and populate the news site for weeks leading up to the launch.

The start-up team had day jobs, so the group gathered many long nights and weekends to get it all done. Clark thanks the Kendalls and the entire news team for contributing to the success of the Post.

The Post news team includes:

  • Lifestyles Editor/Art Director Bonnie J. Gordon (celebrating 8 years with the Post);
  • Government Reporter Kirsten Laskey (4 years);
  • Social Media Editor Chris Clark (7 years);
  • Sports Photographer John McHale (4 years);
  • Photographer Jenn Bartram (3 years);
  • Videographer Nate Limback (2 years);
  • Newspaper Distribution Coordinator Delbert Romero (3 years); and
  • Advertising Manager KayLinda Crawford (4 years).

“Each and every one of them is a dedicated professional and a valued and important link in the paper’s success,” Clark said.

She also thanks the community for its loyal support throughout these nine years.

“One of the most wonderful aspects of this community is how it has developed a sense of ownership of the Post,” Clark said. “If they don’t see us at their event, people often take photos and send us write-ups and we love that … we also love our community members who contribute columns, photographs, stories and opinion pieces … they add an incredibly important element to the paper. We want to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank our longtime columnists including Sharon Snyder, David Izraelevitz, Fr. Glenn Jones, Liddie Martinez, Gary Warren, John Bartlit, Andy Andrews, Alan McQuiston, Michelle Wilde, George Morse and Shelly Wiemann.”

Clark expressed appreciation to the local business community for its early and ongoing support of the paper. From the day the Post began operations, many local business owners called to purchase advertising. Their continued support throughout these years has allowed the Post to prosper, she said.

“Because of you, we are celebrating this 9-year anniversary and have become the official newspaper of record in Los Alamos County,” Clark said.

Milestones through the years:

  • In 2014, the Small Business Development Center named the Los Alamos Daily Post “Small Business of the Year” for which the news team was recognized on the floor of the New Mexico Legislature and by the Los Alamos County Council.
  • In 2015, the Post began publishing a print edition with 9,300 copies delivered weekly to every home and business in Los Alamos and White Rock and placed in 15 news racks.
  • In 2016, the Post website surpassed 1 million monthly pageviews from readers around the world.
  • In 2017, Los Alamos County awarded the Post its legal notices and advertising contract and designated the Post the Official Newspaper of Record.
  • In 2020, the Post Facebook page surpassed 12,000 followers.

The Los Alamos Daily Post news team looks forward to hosting a community-wide celebration next year on its 10th anniversary at its world headquarters at 1247 Central Ave., in downtown Los Alamos.
