Staff Report
The New Mexico Press Association (NMPA) has named Los Alamos Daily Post Publisher Carol A. Clark president of it Board of Directors.
Clark was first elected to serve on the state press board in 2022. At that time she was also appointed to serve on the NMPA legal committee with Nick Seibel of the Silver City Daily Press and Donn Friedman of the Albuquerque Journal.
“It has been a pleasure serving on the board these last three years and I welcome this opportunity to serve as president,” Clark said. “The NMPA is an important resource and advocate for newspapers across the state.”
The NMPA Executive Board includes:
First Vice President – General Manager/CRO Frank Leto of El Rito Media, which owns Alamogordo Daily Press, Carlsbad Current Argus, Ruidoso News, Rio Grande Sun and Artesia Daily Press;
Second Vice President – Publisher Patrick Dorsey of the Santa Fe New Mexican; and
Treasurer – Publisher Nick Seibel of the Silver City Daily Press and Deming Headlight.
The executive board members were named earlier this month following the departure of previous President Clara Garcia for other obligations and 2nd Vice President Belinda Mills, southwest regional senior publisher of Osteen Media Group, Las Cruces Bulletin and Desert Exposure, incoming CEO of NMPA.
In its 126th year, the NMPA exists to improve the quality of member newspapers, encourage high journalistic standards, promote journalism education and protect the rights of free speech for its members as guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States of America.
NMPA is comprised of three organizations with different functions:
New Mexico Press Association – Founded in 1901, the NMPA is the industry representative for member newspapers throughout the state. As the leading advocate, the association is on the front line when it comes to defending and protecting issues important to not only the industry, but for anyone who supports transparency in government. Every fall, NMPA members gather for an annual convention, which includes professional development workshops, guest speakers and an award ceremony.
New Mexico Press Service – The press service is the advertising arm of the press association. The organization helps clients place advertisements in the state’s newspapers through the Classified, 2X2 and Display ad networks. In addition, the service also has a Press Release Program to help clients write and place press releases with media outlets throughout the state.
New Mexico Press Association Foundation – The Foundation’s mission is journalism education. As such, it holds the annual High School Journalism Workshop most summers. The workshop provides high school juniors and seniors to learn the newspaper industry from professionals in the newspaper business.
