Following careful consideration, the Los Alamos Daily Post is endorsing the Los Alamos Public Schools Bond.

Thanks to Los Alamos voters in a previous bond election, the LAPS School Board has been able to remodel Los Alamos High School, Los Alamos Middle School and Aspen Elementary School. Major facility improvements are underway at both Barranca Mesa Elementary School and Mountain Elementary School.

Well maintained schools enhance the learning environment for students, provide a comfortable work environment for teachers and staff and aid in attracting young families to the community. Passage of this current bond will ensure the district’s strategic plan to upgrade and maintain the school facilities can continue for Chamisa and Piñon elementary schools in White Rock.

Important factors in our decision to endorse the LAPS School Bond include:

  • The bond will NOT raise the tax rate;
  • LAPS has established a solid track record over the last two decades for using tax dollars well to build better schools.
  • The bond will provide the needed funds to complete much needed remodeling and renovations of Chamisa and Piñon elementary schools in White Rock.

We encourage residents to vote for the LAPS School Bond to demonstrate a commitment to sustaining our excellent schools.

Early voting begins Oct. 8 and ends Nov. 2 and Election Day is Nov. 5 at the Los Alamos County Municipal Building.
