The Los Alamos Commerce & Development Corporation (LACDC) has selected the Los Alamos Daily Post online newspaper as its Small Business of the Year for 2013.
“We are pleased to announce that the Los Alamos Daily Post will be recognized as our 2013 Success Client," LACDC Executive Director Kevin Holsapple said. "Carol A. Clark started as a business assistance client of the Los Alamos Commerce & Development Corporation well before she decided to take the plunge and start her business. We assisted her with her business feasibility assessment and planning and her hard work was very evident in the success she has demonstrated since start-up. Once the business was up and going, Carol utilized LACDC’s business incubation program to help her get to a point of financial breakeven. We congratulate and recognize Carol and the Los Alamos Daily Post as both a sound business start-up, a growing employer, and a rapid success in becoming among the most trusted sources of news in our community and beyond.”
Los Alamos County conducted an independent survey earlier this year, which identified the Los Alamos Daily Post as the community's number one online news source.
Late Friday afternoon, U.S. Sen. Martin Heinrich stopped by the Los Alamos Daily Post's downtown headquarters to congratulate the news team after spending the day in meetings at Los Alamos National Laboratory.
"Washington is all abuzz about the Los Alamos Daily Post and I want to personally congratulate you for receiving the 2013 Small Business of the Year award," Heinrich said.
Heinrich is a member of the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources and the Select Committee on Intelligence. He delivered a video message to the community during his visit with the Los Alamos Daily Post news team Friday, which can be viewed below.
The Los Alamos Daily Post officially launched its operations in Los Alamos Feb. 7, 2012 and has substantionally grown in readership, advertisers and income ever since. Today, monthly readership surpasses 30,000 unique visits.
Holsapple explained that formal recognition of the Los Alamos Daily Post will take place beginning in November in conjunction with the 2013 National Small Business Saturday event, adding that this year, National Small Business Saturday is Nov. 30.
"The Los Alamos Daily Post will take its place on our wall of fame at the Small Business Center at 190 Central Park Square later in the year," Holsapple said.
LACDC’s and the UNM-LA Small Business Development Center’s 2012 Success Client, Denise Lane, owner of the Hill Diner and Dixie Girl restaurants, has one more recognition event to attend related to her 2012 Small Business of the Year recognition. Lane will be introduced on the floor of the New Mexico Legislature Feb. 28.
