To provide voters information, Los Alamos County has updated the recreation bond website (losalamosbondprojects2017.com) with project information, project costs, a calculator to figure out homeowner’s property tax increase, and renderings of the proposed projects.
Los Alamos County voters will have the opportunity to vote on the $20 million general obligation bond, to be repaid from property taxes for the purpose of designing, acquiring, constructing, purchasing and improving recreation facilities including a multi-generational pool, splash pad and a recreation center with a multipurpose activity center that houses two gymnasium spaces, a running track and indoor ice arena.
Additionally, the bond package would provide for golf course and softball field improvements. If approved, the County will add an additional $13.4 million to the budget from general operating funds with the intention of building or improving five recreation projects.
Mail-in ballots will be mailed out May 2, 2017. They must be received in the Los Alamos County Clerk’s Office by close of business May 23, 2017.
A history of the research and stakeholder meetings that led to the bond election can be found at LosAlamosBondProjects2017.com/history. Residents with questions or who need more information may email firstname.lastname@example.org.
