COUNTY News:
Are you looking for an opportunity to volunteer in our community? The Los Alamos Public Library would love your help! Daniel Gaghan, Senior Librarian for Digital Services, has been working hard to update the library website. The next step is to have community members test the website to see what works, what doesn’t work, and what could be better. No software experience needed! Volunteers are welcome to sign up through the end of February at https://www.volgistics.com/od/576572/assignment/34/profile.
Perhaps you have a soft spot for in-person library services, in which case you might be interested in providing feedback on the outdoor classroom design. Feb. 14, the library will open an online survey where you can share your thoughts on the design options. The survey will be open for two weeks. During this time, both library branches will display poster boards of the designs and offer paper versions of the survey. Members of the Library Board will be attending the following events and will be available to discuss the outdoor classroom:
- Small Space Gardening: 3rd Annual Seed Library Garden Panel
11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Feb. 15, 2025, at Mesa Public Library
- Seed Library: 3rd Anniversary Celebration
1-3 p.m., March 1, 2025, Mesa Public Library and White Rock Branch Library
We are pleased to share that the Los Alamos County Council voted to adopt revisions to the library policies at the January 28 meeting. These updates went through a Library Board review process between November 2023 and October 2024, as well as detailed review by staff and the County Attorney’s Office. The library policies help to define the role of the library in the community by ensuring consistent service and fair treatment, making sure that all applicable laws and codes are followed, and creating transparency and accountability for staff and for the public. You can view the revised policies at LosAlamosLibrary.org under the ‘About’ tab.
Don’t forget, you can stay up to date on the latest Library news by subscribing to the Library newsletter via the Library’s website or by following the Library’s Facebook and Instagram accounts @LAClibrary.
The next Library Board meeting will be March 3, 2025 at the Municipal Building. Please email the Library Board at lb@lacnm.us if you have questions or suggestions. This email will reach all board members: Beth Stelle (Chair), Michele Altherr (Vice Chair), Frances Knudson, Brian Reardon, and Sarah Work.
