The Los Alamos County Council paid its respects to Los Alamos County Summer Concert Series Organizer Russ Gordon during its regular meeting Tuesday night in Council Chambers. After 28 years of providing concerts to the community, Gordon is retiring and Friday will be his final concert.
Councilor Antonio Maggiore read the proclamation, which recognizes Friday as “Russ Gordon Day.” After reading the proclamation, Maggiore said, “I almost teared up a little reading that.” He added, Los Alamos will not be the same without Gordon and Maggiore thanked him “from the bottom of my heart, from the bottom of all our hearts.”
Maggiore, who is a long-time friend of Gordon, said, “I wouldn’t be who I am without you. The countless hours hanging out at your store … the mentorship, the support. You’re one of a kind. Thanks, Russ.”
The Proclamation:
WHEREAS: Russ Gordon has been “the man behind the music” for 28 years as the organizer extraordinaire for the Los Alamos Summer Concert Series; and
WHEREAS: Russ and Deborah have finally decided to step down from the concert stage and enjoy a retirement that is well-deserved; and
WHEREAS: We want to recognize the thousands of hours that Russ has put into the concert series since it began back in 1990 – he’s brought a wide variety of musical acts to our little community that have lit up our concert stage on many summer evenings and filled our residents and visitors with great joy; and
WHEREAS: Because of Russ’ passion and enthusiasm for great music, he’s kept our toes tapping and our fingers snapping on Friday evenings at Ashley Pond Park, Overlook Park – and more than a few parking lots in between – and we want his career to end on a high note before we say good-bye to him and Deborah, as our way of saying “Thanks for the musical memories;”
NOW, THEREFORE, on behalf of the Council of the Incorporated County of Los Alamos, I do hereby proclaim Friday, September 8, 2017 as “Russ Gordon Day” and ask our community to join us in finding ways on this special day to thank Russ for his years of producing the summer concert series for Los Alamos – we wish him and Deborah a long, happy retirement surrounded by friends and family, and intertwined with some great musical tunes.
