2025 Council Chair Theresa Cull

Staff Report

As is the case each January, Los Alamos County Council elects its new leadership. Tuesday evening Council unanimously elected Theresa Cull to serve as chair for 2025.

Cull was elected to County Council in the November 2022 general election. She retired from Los Alamos National Laboratory in 2020 after 37 years in environment, safety, health, and facilities support and management. She holds a B.S. in Safety Engineering from Texas A&M University and a MBA from UNM’s Anderson School of Management.

Born in New York and raised in Pennsylvania and Texas, Cull made her way to Los Alamos in 1983 after college graduation. She lived in La Puebla for about 10 years, but has resided in Los Alamos since 1994 where she and her partner raised two children and have been active members of the community.

Cull has served on the Boards of Directors of the Unitarian Church, Sage Cottage Preschool, and PFLAG (Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays). She has coached youth sports, served as a youth advisor, and traveled to Mexico to build houses over spring break.

As a County Councilor, Cull uses her work and volunteer experience to continue to support the diversity of concerns and needs in the community. Cull’s term on Council ends Dec. 31, 2026.

2025 Council Vice Chair Suzie Havemann

Also at Tuesday’s meeting, Council elected Suzie Havemann to serve as vice chair for 2025. Her election took a couple of rounds as initially Ryn Herrmann nominated her, Cull nominated Melanee Hand and Randall Ryti nominated David Reagor. In the second round Havemann received the minimum four votes required to garner the position.

Havemann was elected to Council in the November 2022 general election.
She grew up in White Rock; after graduating from UC Davis and working in the tech sector in the Bay Area, she returned to Los Alamos in 1993.

Havemann and her husband became quickly involved in Los Alamos activities while raising two sons; they spent a lot of time on the road with all their youth and high school sports travel.

Through her diverse background working for IBM, LANL, the County, Chamber of Commerce, and as a long-time Realtor, Havemann brings a unique perspective to leverage opportunities and help solve challenges. Her civic engagement has included the Environmental Sustainability Board, Resiliency Energy and Sustainability Task Force, LAPS, various youth organizations and regional boards.

Havemann’s focus areas include housing, environment, business support, customer service and good governance. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, cycling, snow sports, camping and travel. Havemann’s term on Council ends Dec. 31, 2026.
