From the Los Alamos County Clerk’s Office:
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 public health crisis, Los Alamos County Clerk Naomi Maestas has made the decision to once again forego Election Night Reporting (in-person) at the Municipal Building, to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19, as we continue to do our part to battle this public health pandemic.
As done in the 2020 Elections, rather than congregating and waiting for results tapes to be posted here in the Municipal Building, we will e-mail candidates, local party chairs, media, and other interested parties, a PDF document of the results, as they become available from each of the Vote Centers.
We will be sending this communication to the email addresses on file with our office. The PDF document will contain a running total of the sites being reported, which will be noted at the top of the document. We anticipate having the ability to also send a separate report, specific to each Vote Center.
Also, as required by law, results tapes will be posted outside each Vote Center for review, but we ask those viewing to please respect the current CSP’s set in place.
We also will simultaneously post results to our website: www.losalamosnm.us/clerk. Once results have been emailed and posted to the website, we will also post this info to our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts (links to social media accounts available in email signature below).
As a reminder, voters may submit completed ballots to any Election Day polling place until 7 p.m. today. Therefore, the Absentee by Mail Precinct Board will be working well past 7 p.m, qualifying and processing any ballots accepted at each of our Election Day Vote Centers and given to the County Clerk.
As of 6 p.m. today, there are 71 outstanding ballots to be returned to the Absentee Board.
While the New Mexico Secretary of State (NM SOS) and our office do not anticipate any major delays in the reporting of election results after polls close at 7 p.m., because of the unprecedented nature of conducting an election during a global pandemic, there is a possibility that the results in certain counties and/or for certain races might be delayed longer than usual.
