Artwork by Jerome L. Martinez is on display through Jan. 14 in the cafe at the the Los Alamos Cooperative Market at 95 Entrada Drive.

Martinez is an award-winning painter from San Ildefonso Pueblo. His artistic journey spans more than four and a half decades.

Martinez was born and raised in Los Alamos and graduated from Los Alamos High School in 1979. He attended the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe from 1979 to 1981, majoring in Museology.

His professional career outside of art includes construction, 12 years in wildland fire management, natural resources, Parks and Wildlife at San Ildefonso Pueblo and presently, at Bandelier National Monument.

At 62 years old, Martinez is a seasoned artist who has devoted his life to the pursuit of artistic excellence. He is entirely self-taught and draws inspiration from his rich cultural heritage and vibrant traditions of the Pueblo of San Ildefonso to create works.
