LACA News:
The Los Alamos Concert Association (LACA) has announced the exciting array of artists it will present in its 77th season beginning in September. The lineup includes pianist Sir Stephen Hough, the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet, and an innovative young chamber orchestra from Los Angeles.
Frisson Winds with pianist Marika Bournaki opens the season on Saturday, Sept. 23 with a lively afternoon of sextets, quintets and trios.
November will bring Sir Stephen Hough, the first classical performer to win a MacArthur Fellowship. Knighted by Queen Elizabeth in 2022, Sir Stephen will perform works by Scriabin, Debussy, Liszt, Mompou and his own Partita.
Delirium Musicum, a self-conducted chamber ensemble focused on reinterpretation of old masters and contemporary composers, will take the stage in January. Their intimate engagement with the audience was described by San Francisco Classical Voice as “ferocious and rhythmically mesmerizing”.
The Grammy-winning Los Angeles Guitar Quartet has long set the standard for guitar ensembles. Their performance in Los Alamos will feature the Romani music of Hungary and the Balkans, and the composers it influenced.
Two young artists at the forefront of the great performer/composer revival, cellist Nicholas Canellakis and pianist Michael Brown will close the season with masterpieces from the standard repertoire along with their own compositions and arrangements.
All concerts take place in the Duane Smith Auditorium on the campus of Los Alamos High School, 1300 Diamond Drive.
Tickets are $30 until the first concert on Sept. 23, then are $35. Tickets for young people 6-18 are free for all concerts in the season. For complete ticket, artist and venue information, visit www.losalamosconcert.org.
