LACW News:

The Los Alamos Community Winds (LACW) is offering Instrumental Valentine Serenades to the community.

What better way to celebrate the international day of love than to have a group of musicians perform at your doorstep?

How many of today’s readers remember from long ago the romantic gesture of a serenade to your wife, girlfriend or significant other, perhaps sung by a barbershop group or a college fraternity?

The Los Alamos Community Winds has come up with a new twist to this and will be offering several different ways to bring out that romance.

Partnering with Flowers by Gillian and Rose Chocolatier, LACW will be offering a performance of three musical selections for $40 with the optional add-ons (for $10 each) of a beautifully wrapped long stemmed rose and a gift box of four delicious chocolate truffles.

“Finding innovative ways to continue to perform during COVID-19 has been a challenge for ensembles worldwide,” Director Ted Vives said. “Valentine’s Day has provided LACW with an interesting opportunity to both play music and hopefully bring in some much needed income to our organization.”

Each serenade will be performed by a small group from within the larger ensemble. Music selections will include old time-honored standards like “Let Me Call You Sweetheart” along with popular love songs from the past such as “How Deep Is Your Love”.

“Our players have been preparing the music individually for these performances, and we expect to have some very fine musical presentations for all those wishing to express their love for each other this Valentine’s Day,” Vives said.

Serenades can be purchased and scheduled by going to www.lacw.org/wp/valentineserenade. Clicking anywhere on the page will take you directly to the order form.

Serenades will be delivered Feb. 5, 6 and 7 and Feb. 12, 13 and 14. Schedule times are limited. The last day to order is Monday, Jan. 31.

Posters also are up around the community. Each contains the QR Code that will take you directly to the serenade webpage with your mobile device.

Proceeds from the sale of Valentine Serenades will go to fund the 2022 Association of Concert Bands National Convention, which will be held in Santa Fe May 3-8, 2022. The Los Alamos Community Winds, along with the Santa Fe Concert Band and The Albuquerque Concert Band, have been selected to host this exciting event.
