LACDC News:

Los Alamos Commerce and Development Corporation (LACDC) has announced it is the recipient of a “Build to Scale” grant from the Economic Development Administration. The grant will support entrepreneurship and acceleration of high-tech company growth through the launch of the New Mexico Laboratory Embedded Entrepreneurship Program (NM LEEP).

NM LEEP is an initiative created in partnership among LACDC, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Sandia National Laboratories, and Central New Mexico Community College to bridge the wide gap between technology-innovation capacity and high-tech business growth within the state.

This grant will help fund the pilot program to recruit five innovators over a three year period to build, launch, and scale national security-focused solutions in New Mexico that serve the evolving technology-product needs of the private and public sectors.

The value of the grant is $600,000, which will complement investment by both laboratories to create a more robust program.

“We see this program as a catalyst to technology-based economic development in Los Alamos and New Mexico,” LACDC Executive Director Patrick Sullivan said. “We are thrilled to be a part of this innovative program and look forward to partnering with LANL and Sandia on this exciting opportunity.”

“Congratulations to the Los Alamos Commerce & Development Corporation for winning this important grant,” LANL Director Thom Mason said. “These funds make it possible for the country’s most innovative businesses to collaborate with New Mexico’s national labs to develop technologies that benefit national security and New Mexico’s economic development—two major priorities for the Laboratory.”

NM LEEP will offer a contemporary model to bridge the technology excellence of the New Mexico Labs with external innovators and experienced mentors who are focused on building a new generation of companies. It will drive economic progress in New Mexico and build advanced products that serve local, national, and global markets.
