Promotional Opportunities

Oppenheimer/ScienceFest Business Promotion
As we do for ScienceFest every year, we would like to promote your unique experiences, products, programming, or attractions. This year we will promote anything with an “Oppenheimer” twist! This can be as simple as a menu item, t-shirt design, or a one-time Oppie-themed Trivia Night, to an on-going tour or art program. But instead of just doing this for ScienceFest, we will promote these specials for a longer period of time. and then continue to build the offerings as this “Year of Oppenheimer” moves along. So, please send us your “Oppenheimer” offerings, with a photo if possible, to Sam at sam@losalamos.org. Contact us if you have questions!

Jona Manufacturing Services, Inc.
In light of the Project Oppenheimer the movie promotion, Jona Manufacturing Services would like to offer their laser engraving services to make promotional items. They could laser engrave pint glasses with the Oppy logo on them or on round key chain aluminum tags that business can sell, or for promotional give away items. They could also laser engrave any items that could possibly be needed for this event. In addition, with their machining, welding, and fabrication capabilities they could possibly help in a variety of ways, such as props, backdrops, souvenirs, etc. Owner David Hand has lived in Los Alamos since he was 2 years old, and has owned his local small business, Jona Manufacturing Services Inc., since 2003. His family has also owned several small businesses throughout the years and would love to support and promote Los Alamos. Contact David Hand to see how Jona Manufacturing Services can participate or help with this event. 505.662.4611,  www.jonamanufacturing.comdhand@swcp.com, 264 DP Rd, Los Alamos, NM 87544

Los Alamos County

CALL FOR ARTISTS!
The Los Alamos County Art Tunnel is primed and ready for a new year of murals! This year, 12 spaces have been reserved as Oppenheimer-themed murals in celebration of the release of the movie “Oppenheimer” this coming July 21, 2023! We are looking for inspired artists to help us fill these spaces. The Oppenheimer-themed blocks range in size from 2′ x 2′ up to 4′ x 5′. This allows for a lot of flexibility! Ideas and designs can feature one artist with a large mural in mind, or a group of people, like a class, family, business or organization working together to create their mural. We encourage everyone to think outside the box to fill each space with something uniquely Oppie. Los Alamos Traffic and Streets Division kicked things off by adding the Project Oppenheimer icon to the tunnel. Stop by and get a selfie with Oppie and think about what your mural will be! Email Los Alamos County Community Services at tessajo.mascarenas@lacnm.us to pick a size and location and reserve your spot today!

New Mexico Film Opportunity
Stowe Story Labs is proud to partner with New Mexico Film Office to offer the 2nd Annual New Voices • New Mexico Program. A three-part writing program for ten talented New Mexicans interested in developing a feature film or TV script. Participants will be selected through a competitive application process. The program will be limited to 10 emerging talents (or teams of no more than two). Applications will be selected based on a good story idea; the demonstrable ability to write a feature or television script, learn to incorporate new skills and approaches into the work; and a collaborative nature.

The three parts of the program are:

  • Three-Day Online Narrative Lab: Remote June Narrative Lab: June 23-25, 2023
  • Four-month online writing program: Online Writing Program: July 9 – Oct. 15, 2023
  • Four-Day Writers Retreat: In-Person November Retreat: Nov. 4-7, 2023

GOALS + RESULTS
The intent is to help participants turn their ideas or earliest drafts into fully developed scripts, to support participants in building ancillary documents, such as project one-sheets, look books, and to review approaches to getting the work out into the world. By the end of the program, participants should have an excellent first draft of a script, a confident ability to talk about the project, and will be prepared to push the work forward.

QUALIFICATIONS
You must be a resident of New Mexico to participate. Proof of residency will be required on the application. Click here to apply: https://stowestorylabs.org/new-mexico-film-office-screenwriting

SAN Graduation Event Needs Volunteers, Donations
Volunteers for late shifts are still needed to chaperone for the community-sponsored, all-night high school graduation celebration known as Senior Appreciation Night (SAN) Saturday, May 27. Donor-sponsors are also still needed.

Late shift volunteers are asked to email volunteer coordinator Diana Martinez at dmartinez@laymca.org and indicate which shift desired (number of volunteers needed in parenthesis):

SAN costs about $12,000 each year to produce and is mainly funded by parents, community businesses and organizations. People may donate online here or at https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=J2A4XDMTR4864.
SAN was created in 1984 by community volunteers and business as a fun, safe alternative to dangerous celebrations for graduates. The event typically serves 350+students.  SAN is sponsored by Los Alamos County Recreation Department, The Family YMCA, the DWI Planning Council, Kiwanis Club of Los Alamos, Los Alamos Public Schools, Atomic City Transit, First United Methodist Church, and some 40 other organizations and local businesses.
